How do I know if I have Periodontal Disease?

For many, the first signs of Periodontal Disease (more commonly know as Gum Disease) are bad breath and bleeding gums. Often bleeding gums is seen as commonplace, however it is anything but. If any part of your body starts bleeding on contact, you should be concerned. Bleeding gums are a sign of infection in your mouth and is nothing to ignore. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to severe weakening of your gums, tooth infection or loss, and an increased risk of heart problems.

Gum disease is caused by the bacteria contained in dental plaque and can be avoided by regularly maintaining your oral health through brushing and flossing, and dental hygiene appointments every six months.
